advice on tools

im a college student that just bought a 1988 bronc and i have been workin on it ALOT and now that its time to go back to school im gonna need to get my own tools that i can carry up there.

i have most of the hand tools sockets, torque wrench, screwdrivers and so on with a few odds and ends

but i was wondering if there are any special hand tools i should get and i want to start to accumulate some power tools as well recipricating saw, impact, drill, and some kinda hand grinder maybe so should i go with electric or air?

portablity, cost, and shear limit of space for storage are factors

I have a set of the mat co wrenchs with the socket ting in the closed end of them. They were the best thing I have ever bought. Also I have a 18v dewalt drill( I got the 4 pack) That to is a very good thing to have.

I have had 2 sets and I replace the batterys every year b/c i use them every day and they start to go bad. on a full charge the saw last all day, it is the only saw i use( it is so small and easy to use). The drills use very little power and hardly run down a battery. The reciprocating saw is one of the best tools to have.

Cordless drills.....at least 14 volts, or you'll spend more time charging that using.
My Makita was great till my neighbor took it back.

most tools are the same regardless of the name stamped on them, well that is except the high dollar ones like mac and snap on. i perfer to spend money on other things besides high dollar tools, my set is 95% craftsman and i have never had a problem that wasnt fixed by walking into sears. you can spend 30,000 dollars buying a high dollar set of tools, and you get great tools. i rather spend 2000 dollars on tools and buy a new compresser and hoist a powered lift and still have enough left over to expand the garage and run cable tv and install a bathroom instead.

im with ya i got a dirt cheap set of sockets/screwdrivers i beleive electric is the way to go now i just hafta get a long extension cord and it seems like finding the right 4 or 5 pack of tools is impossible and they always throw one or two things in there i dont want anyways like a flashlight, vacuum, radio
im gonna start looking at prices on a grinder and rec. saw
i got that p.o.s. drill from the folks so that is one down it is at the end of its life though

There are a lot of good companies with hand tools, but you will never have all of them. You will acquire special tools for many different jobs through the years, depending on what you do. I must admit I have plenty of Craftsman hand tools in my shop, along with MAC and SNAP-ON. One thing I have become loyal to in electric and portable tools is Milwaukee. I always thought they were over priced until I bought my first 9-inch grinder and have been sold on them for life. If anyone is interested, under my bench are a few other companies electric tools that do not work or self imploded.…..... ....…first come first serve…..

any in particular i might need to do a rear main seal or engine rebuild i was wondering if an electric impact would be strong enough to remove the crossmember under the tranny or engine mounts on a very rust 88'
i do mean the corded one the cordless would be nice but i seriously question there power compared to the corded
