I recently had a injector go out lucky #7 of course. So i look up the tools i need and see a long torx #40 for the injector hold down that i dont have. I buy one an sk hand tool torx bit first i try cranking on my torque ratchet set at 15 ft/lbs i here it click pull the tool out and the bottom of the torx is twisted. So i buy a snap on long torx bit today and the same thing happened twisted the tool. One thing that i could think of that might cause the problem is im cutting the torx tool length by 1 inch. I dont know if i should just take the evap. case out to get more room or if i have a more serious problem.Im not the original owner and the guy before me put head studs in. any help will be appreciated
-thanks
re read your post. are you removing or installing? recently i had similar problem removing inj. 1st 40 torqs twisted then purchased new snap on torqs used 3/8 breaker bar and a quick snap it it came loose. on install recomend using inch lb toque wrench, new torque recomended seems to be 26 ft lbs but most ft lb torque wrenches do not seem very accurate at that low torque .good luck! not fun back there,if you are unsure of hold down it is best to replace it
wow it seems to have been over tightened. when you get it removed compare the hold down boltw ith anew one (length) as it may be stretched, as mentioned a breaker bar with more leverage and a quick snap usualy gets it loose . i have had to use an impact driver before ,but i realize you do not have the room. maybe someone else can chime in good luck
ya i was thinking someone put lock tight on it or used an air impact i knew it could not take that much force to break it loose. I have never changed an injector on it so i didnt know what to expect. Im gonna see if a 1/2 inch breaker might do it.
I agree. Take the time to get it right. I had a hold-down let go 6 hours from home in the mountains, out of cell range. That's how they punish you. Hydro locked cylinder. Big mess. My mech opted for a little Lock Tite after that.
... One thing that i could think of that might cause the problem is im cutting the torx tool length by 1 inch. ...
its a early 2003 build with the oil log
Cutting the tool will change the temper thus loosing its strength
granted does seem it is in there too tight / lock-tight'd
As much as I dislike Harbor Freight the do have a 1/4" torx set that is the perfect length. I had a couple of hold downs that were tight when I first did mine and it did hold up, granted I had no Idea what the torque value was but i was struggle quite a bit to "break it"
