Anyone changed the upper ball joints/control arms (the come as a unit) on a 95 Explorer EB 4WD ??
I have bought both sides and already changed the left side.
The original on the right side is a 2 piece control arm (as the manual shows)
that has what looks like a caster adjustment on it.
The new one for the right side is one piece without the adjustment.
Should the replacement be a 1 or 2 piece unit ?
Any help appreciated !!
Don
I did it few months ago, seems like the aftermarket arms are one piece. I never checked with the dealer, so I don't know if they changed their design as well. I had it aligned right afterwords and everything went fine. Weren't those cam bolts a huge PITA?? While you're at it I would check inner/outer tie rods and lower ball joints if you haven't replaced them yet.
Thanks !
Do you or anyone else recall if the original one for the right side was a 2 piece
wishbone ...... with an adjustment bolt for what looks like adjusting the caster? It looks like the new 1 piece (without adjuster) will fit OK but
I'm just concerned that they have given me the right replacement part .
Thanks again
Don
Yes, the original was 2-piece and replacement 1-piece. Thay gave you the right part. Like I said I had it aligned after I replaced it and it checked out OK.
At another forum some mentioned that their replacement was a 2 piece unit.
Thought I'd better check with NAPA.
Looks like NAPA screwed up with part #'s.
The correct one for the right side is a 2 piece arm.
All you need is the outer half to do the ball joint.
Took back the wrong 1 piece unit, picked up the proper
part ............. installed it yesterday.
