97 Explorer 4WD upper ball joint

I need to change both left and right upper ball joints on my truck. they both look original. left side is a 1 piece, right side is a 2 piece. question- why did they only put a 2 piece on right side? appears it would be so much easier to replace the right side joint w/o having to remove the control arm. is there a problem if I replace right side with a Moog 1 piece controlarm/ball joint? will I still be able to get all the proper alignment adjustments when I get truck aligned? or should I replace the right side with the 2 piece unit. If I replace the right side with the 2 piece unit, I assuming the cntrol arm does not have to be removed?

OEM was a one pc, so the 2pc side has already been replaced at some time in the past.

Replace both sides with the 2 pc parts, alignment will need to be done.

Replace the ball joints with the either 1 or 2 piece, I haven't noticed a difference in quality

LOL, TeamExp, we have differing opinion, except for the Moog.

I would also replace the lower BJ, they usually fail before the uppers.

the lowers were changed by the previous owner by a Ford dealership about 30,000 miles ago. they have no play and the boots are still in good shape. I really don't have play in the top right side ball joint but the boot is ripped and I can see and feel that that there is no grease in there.

Yes, but since I keep my rides for a long time I find the 2 pc to be more convenient, the bushing don't need to be changed out as often as the Bj's.

I do a lot of off-road driving with heavy dive gear in the truck and a 10# winch up front.
