alright..i have a problem. it seems to me that my fuel pump went out in my 92 ranger. what makes it even worse though is that i just put the gas tank back in YESTERDAY due to a dry-rotted filler neck. My queston is what else could be wrong with my ranger. I really dont feel like taking the gas tank out again. it cranks over but it just seems like its not getting any gas. i've checked the fuel reset button thing, but no matter what i do to that it still wont start. I drove the ranger yesterday and it didnt seem to have any problems. So could there be a fuse or something easier that i can check before taking the gastank back out.
try tapping on the fuel pump relay, sometimes they stick. Its in the under hood fuse box, from the front its the second little square block(1in x 1in) on the left.there only $10,so it never hurts to replace it.when you turn the key to ON you should hear the pump buzz for two seconds then stop.if it doesn't buzz, tap the relay a couple times and try the key again.
I would suggest eliminating the easy things first before removing or moving the bed to replace the pump. The problem could be as simple as the fuel filter being clogged up by debris from moving the tank around. I had a similar problem. A fuel pressure gauge showed less than ten pounds on the injection rail. The fix was replacing the fuel filter.
did you hear the fuel pump buzz for a few seconds when you turn the key on? Do you know anybody with a fuel pressure gauge that can test the pressure at the fuel rail? that pump is pretty expensive to replace if your not sure its bad.you should have 30-40psi at the rail with the key on and engine off.
