I am currently on a road trip to Illinois from Arizona. Going through St. Louis, the cruise control started acting up.
When set it would be okay for a while and then start surging... Next it would not turn on at all.... Later hitting the On button caused the horn to honk.
Later it would work for a while then start to surge. stopping all together... etc...
Not sure if I can find a local Dealer (not much around Fithian) nor sure they would know what to fix.
Anyone else have this type of problem?
My best guesses would be the controls in the steering wheel since the horn honking when pressing the On button would make some sense.
This sounds like that little wire (tan colored if I'm not mistaken) that gets damaged inside the steering column. (You do have the auto tranny I expect?)
It's a common problem, but an easy fix.
My 2001 V-10 auto would start surging while on cruise between 65-70 MPH. The Ford guys replaced something in the Anti-skid system which fixed the problem.
Well it was a bust getting it to the dealer... Since I didn't already have an appointment, they wanted me to leave the truck for the entire day and that being the last day there... was not really an option.
The strange thing is that since the day it messed up, it has been working fine since.
Made the trip back to AZ the past two days and the cruise control didn't mess up at all... kinda wierd. Will be taking it in to the local dealer here soon and have them check it out but what ever was messing up stopped doing it that one day. Maybe the truck didn't like St. Louis ??
The trip back was a two day hot peddle home with no problems.
