I have the 3.0L Ranger. It will start but idles really rough, and when I puch on the gas pedal it instantly cuts out. Anyone else had this happen? I am thinking it is the fuel filter. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Not much to go on, but it does sound like a fuel delivery problem or a large vacuum leak. A new fuel filter is a good start, as well as checking all vacuum hoses and connections.
Has it every had full tuneup (plugs, wires, filters, fluids, etc.)?
Everything is not fine if the CEL is on. There is at lease one trouble code stored in the computer's memory. You can get the code(s) read at many national autoparts places such as AutoZone, etc. When you do get the codes pulled, write them down and post them here. This really has to be your first step if you want to diagnose the problem correctly. Otherwise it's a guessing game, and that can get expensive.
