Fuel pump problem
Hi all, I have a 1992 F-150,long wheel base, duel gas tanks with a 302. When I switch to the front tank the gauge shows empty and the truck shuts off. Plenty of gas in the tank. With the engine off and I switch the key on with the selector on the front tank no noise. Key on with selector on rear you can hear the punp for 3-5 seconds. Questions....does the fuel gauge not showing fuel have anything to do with the pump not working? Best way to check pump without removing? All I find in the book is one fuse and one circut breaker for both pumps. Can I jump wires to make sure pump is getting voltage and if so where and what color wires. Thanks for the help. Usually I would drop the tank but I had three heart attacks last month so that is out of the question. Thanks again.

Check the connector at the top of the tank. It sounds like the pump and gauge aren't getting any power. If that connector is plugged in and firmly seated, check for voltage. The selector solenoid on the frame rail also switches the power for the pumps and gauges, so that could be defective.
