Need help finding the engine block casting number on my '70 Sport Custom. Already looked behind, ontop, around, and beside the starter and there is nothing there, also looked at the front of the passenger side block, I know sometimes they are there, but nothing on this one. The only numbers I see or feel are the usual 352 behind the power steering pump, and a couple numbers on the bottom of the oil filter housing which I can't read. Any good ideas on where to look? Checked the numbers on the intake and they came back to a '69 galaxie that I'm not sure they ever made, just trying to find out if I've got a replace intake or a different engine than I thought I had! Any input would be greatly appreciated!
You got a block with no casting numbers, typical for late FE's out of Dearborn. About the only thing you can verify is the casting date which are the numbers you can't read under the oil filter adaptor. Sorry.
Thats what I was afraid of, I did a search and saw a post about Ratsmoker having the same problem with a 390. How common was this? The reason I was looking was because I checked the casting numbers on the intake and they came back to a '69 Galaxie, which from what I can tell they never made with a 360. And my little old 360 has always run incredibly well, more so than it should. I've got a 71' sport custom with the same set up and its a dog, my '70 with 4 bbl and headers I can get a posi second out of it. But this truck has had a gravy life, recently changed tranny fluid and filter and it was original, changed u-joints and they were original, had spicer stamped into caps on them. I'm just wondering what I've got!! Thanks for the info!
