field wire voltage 78 f250

what voltage should a 78 f250 have at the field wire coming off the regulator to the alternator.

It varies depending on the demand on the alternator. The regulator looks at the truck's voltage level, and then sends a varying voltage to the field of the alt to vary the output to keep the system voltage level. So it could be anywhere from a couple of volts to 12 volts.
