Well I just got a call from my buddy who has been looking at my truck. The turbo is blown. He said the bearings went, then the extra movement that allowed caused the fins to get jacked up on the housing. He said I have to get a new one and dealer cost is about $750...he found one at a junkyard for $400 with no guarantee. Is there some kind of re-build kit or something to fix my turbo? I know I can get a new compressor wheel, but I don't know about the bearings and stuff...if anyone can help me out I'd appreciate. Oh yeah, the reason I'm posting is that I am STRAPPED for cash at the momnent....in a bad way.
Thanks Bagstroke...does anyone know for sure if this is the part number for my truck. 2000 F250 4x4 7.3L
PART NUMBER IS 1831457C91, SERIAL # CLL39403
Thanks in advance!!
The turbo from any 99.5-2003 7.3 PSD is exactly the same as yours.
Since your wheel has been into the housing I would not bother with rebuilding it. You're not going to get a gaurentee on any used turbo, but if you buy the cheapie used one and put a rebuild kit in it you will at least have some peace of mind.

I agree with Cookie - don't use the old housing. The compressor wheel would have gouged the surface on the inside, ruining it. So your cheaper option that you mention is actually not an option at all.
No problem. You can still rebuild your turbo if you would prefer too, but the damaged housing would need to be replaced and since the exhaust wheel is welded to the shaft, you would need to replace that too (the turbine shaft may have been damaged when the wheel contacted the housing).
HERE is a good rebuild article for a TP-38. The procedure will be pretty much the same for the GTP-38 on your truck.
