When I run the bejeeezuz out of it, about 2-3 minutes. Just normal driving down the freeway and pulling in for fuel...generally doesn't take more than sixty seconds. When towing heavy it can take as long as five minutes to get properly cooled down.
Ok, thanks for the info. I'll have to sit and idle a little longer than I have.
I agree with Quadzilla and cookie88. Banks does make good products, but they are way overpriced and often put out less power than if you put together your own system.
I hope shutting down at 325-350 won't be an issue.
Anybody else from Phoenix? In the summer in phoenix, the lowest my 99PSD will get is in the mid 300's. When it's above 110*F outside, idle without A/C is about 300-310. If you switch on the A/C, idle goes up to about 325. I usually turn off the A/C a mile or so from my destination just to get as low as possible. Other times of the year 300 is no problem.
so what if your just driving around town no towing? I mean my truck is my everyday driver so that would start to take up some time if i just have to run to the store and stuff.
The owners manual says that after extended highway driving or towing, the turbo needs to cool down for approx 7-10 minutes.
When you install a pyro EGT gauge, you notice that if you drive your truck "anywhere," when you stop, the EGT is above 300, it may only take 15-30 seconds to cool down on the short trip to the grocery store. The tradeoff is, waiting for the EGT to cool vs. turbo life. You have to draw the line somewhere and the closer to 300 it is the longer the turbo life.
I hope shutting down at 325-350 won't be an issue.
Shouldn't be. I've read that 400 degrees is the magic number in relation to coking oil with dino oils, supposedly it a bit higher with synthetics. I have the same problem with the Arkansas summers...usually only wait until I see 325 as it almost never gets below 300 with the A/C on.
I ordered the banks intercooler while upgrading my truck but when I got the intercooler it looked so much like my stock one I decided to run it around hard for a while with the stock one, well the truck ran real hot on the EGT's and under the hood it was unusually hot I called banks and asked what was so great about this intercooler that I had ordered since it looks just like my stock one and I told him about the heat issue he said the difference was on the inside and 150 cubic feet per second his name is victor a real helpful fellow too. He said just put our intercooler in and call me back well I did call him back just to tell him "oh ok I get it" lol he said I thought you might like it my temps went down and performance up hope this helps.
