Bad Transfer Case on 98 Expedition

Well I just got word this morning, the clunk and high pitch whine I was hearing under the truck is a bad transfer case. It had a nasty grinding noise when shifted into 4Lo also. What a dissapointment. Only 90000 miles on the truck. It just seems completely premature to me. Am I missing something here? Shouldn't a transfer case last longer than 90000? I had the transfer case fluid changed in it about a year ago. In the back of my mind I'm wondering if the wrong fluid was put in that caused it to fail. Don't know though. I'm having a re-built put in on Wednesday.

Any comments on this subject would be appreciated. Especially any that would ease my pain.

Have the fluid tested you can find places that will do it online they will tell you the contents such as metal and fluid type they use it for big rigs to tell if somethiing is going to go. At least that is what I have been told by a person suing a fast lube place for putting the wrong fluid in a car.
