Hi, yes I am in Australia which is a problem when it comes to doing anything to this motor, most people have never heard of these motors, when I put the heads on we had to reuse the front and back vally cover gaskets because they don't even list these motors over hear.
Does the distributor have such a big advance the make up for the 4 degres retard in the timeing chain and cam.
I will look into getting that kit for the distributor or maybe if a 351 cleveland distributor fitted I might be able to use one of these, if I do have to buy a kit it may have to be sent from the states.(will a 351 cleveland disributor fit into a 351m motor?)
It has a 4 barrel holley on it but when we looked it up it was a 390 holly, I would like to try a 650 vac secondry's,the intake manafold is a ellbrook the guy's that are helping me work on the bronco recon it's a good street manafold.
I'm pretty keen to take a look at the timeing chain and cam, last night i was going though all the paper work that was in the bronco, it has the paper work from its first rego in the states to when it was brought to Australia and converted and I found a paper that has cam specs but I'm not sure if it's the one in the bronco.
It is useing a bit less fuel, I went for a 250km (about 140mile) drive yesturday and it used about a 1/4 of a tank less than for the same trip a couple of week back.
ray71, if you have a problem with the intake end seals staying in place, just pitch them and use silicone only. it's much more reliable, the end seals tend to leak and spit out. of the 351M/400 gasket set, the only seals you really need are the oil pan end seals and the rear main seal. hang on to yours as long as they are good. the rear main might be the same as a 351W? but i don't know if a 351W rear main is any more available than one for a 351M over there? all the other gaskets are the same as for a 302C/351C. try fitting an allen wrench into the vacuum nipple on the advance pot, many are adjustable. you might be able to limit the amount of vacuum advance by adjusting it?
I'll have a look and see if it vac nipple is adjustable it would make life a bit easyer, I've had a look at the crane cam site and could not find the kit for the distributor.
This will be my last post for a week, I've got a week off work so I'm taking a road trip trough the high country with the missus and kids, but while I'm away I'll try and find a good 600 holley with vac seconds.
