Explorer - high idle, throttle sticks
1991 Explorer 2wd 5 spd manual trans 174000 mi. Engine idles real fast when started, then drops to 900 rpm, cycles through this 3 or so times each startup esp when cold. Also, when shifting gears the throttle sticks at around 2000-2500 rpm after gas pedal is released and stays at that rpm for about 10 secs, then drops to normal idle.
Any ideas where to start? Thanks for the input.
Disconnected negative post at battery so ROM could reset and chip would "relearn" the correct idle.
Took apart the idle air bypass, disconnected the motor from the valve part - cleaned the piston and sleeve on the servo, really gunked up with carbon and crap.
Butterfly valve on the intake manifold was really loaded with carbon and gunk. Cleaned all that off, lubricated the external linkage.
Put it all back together, reconnected battery and fired it right up. Idles where it should, after the chip scanned for correct idle.
