Warped rotors normally are not felt until the application of the pedal. Driving down the road allows the caliper to open due to "runout" which is the bearing/rotor side to side play along with pedal release opens the caliper enough to barely contact. You have another problem. Is the problem under acceleration/decelaration? Is it during a particular window of speed, which could indicate tires. Need some more information.

Check your stabalizer and see if it is leaking if so replace it. Also look at the tires if they are scalloped that could be the problem. Try moving your front tires to the back and see if the problem goes away, if so it id your tires.

If it's tires, the rule of thumb as I learned it: If you feel it in the steering wheel, the problem is in the front tires - if you feel it in the seat, it's rears...

u can check your u joints by getting under the truck (apply parking brake)and seeing if there is any play in the joints themselves where they conect to axle

Hey, George!
You could be right about the carrier bearing. Just climb under your truck and give it a visual, see if the rubber is chipped or worn or maybe even scored.
If it looks fine, more than likely it's what was mentioned above.

Good Luck.

hey all, im having trouble getting under the truck(just got out of hospital). the front tires are worn funny(2nd tread block in worn more then out).
i feel it goinbg down road, with or without throttle. throutgh the wheel and in the p[ants. under braking i feel the rotor warp(i know that one).
undre the truck, i grabbed driveshaft behind the bearing and pulled. it moved around some in the carrier, is that normal or should therte be no movement.
today we were going to the dr. and over some bumps i herd a noise frome behind me.
i plan on shocks(ther in the garage waiting) rotors(waiting for money)and tires(before winter)
is it possible the stabilizer is bad? it looks dry.

the truck is a 2002 psd cc lb 4x with 46k miles. i tow and plow.

thanks

Sounds like you may have multiple sources of vibration. Unless the carrier bearing is mounted in rubber (anyone?) that shouldn't have any side to side play, the tires sound a little dicey, and you're already aware of the brake rotor issue. I think I 'd take them one at a time. Fix the brakes to get rid of that one. Then tackle the carrier bearing. That's going to be most likely to cause vibration under load (i.e. accelerating). Check the u joints while you're at it, they can cause a little grumbling even if you can't feel any play in them when the drive shaft is still on the truck - you might have a dry cup. And plowing is rough on them. Sounds like you're probably going to be in the market for tires too, but they're the easy part (except on the wallet!) Good luck...

Make sure your front axles are not turning in 2wd. Lots of these hubs keep the axles spinning. Thats if you have ESOF. Or manuals with a hub locked..

Hi

Sounds to me that the motor mounts are shot. Motor mounts on these trucks need to be replaced every 25,000 miles per Ford

That's normal. If there was alot of movement, then you'd need to replace it. (It is in rubber).

I wouldn't think so. One day when you feel up to it, loosen the rod-end bracket. If there is any play in the bushings or if the rod moves too freely in and out, then it's bad.

But, tires and shocks are looking like they are the culprits right now.

Good luck.

Shock, tie rod ends, etc. won't cause vibrations - only moving parts that are out of round, out of balance, etc. will. But those vibrations can certainly cause some damage to other parts (which can be real safety hazards!), can be accentuated by worn suspension parts, and working shocks can mask some subtle problems. Best to find and fix the source of the vibrations, then fix the any damage they have caused (safety issues shouldn't be ignored though!)

As for the motor mount. I'm scratching my head on that one too. I've probably got a couple million miles on Ford trucks, and I've never replaced a single motor mount. I "never say never", but...
