oil pump shaft

undefinedhi i just installed my new rebuilt 460 into my bronco the only problem is that i forgot to put the oil pump shaft in before i put the pump on. i can get the shaft in through the distributor hole but i have to take the clip off of it. can i get by with doing this or is the clip needed i really do not want to have to take the pan off again any help is appreciated

thanks Hagen

go right ahead, just be careful ,the clip is only to keep the shaft from pulling out with the dist. use a magnet or dum dum to hold the shaft in a 5/16 socket (Beckemeyer where??)

have done this many times as a dealer tech. if you miss the hole and can not get the shaft back out you will need to remove the pan then. try this first.
