There are other fuse links on that same stud and you can do the same test to see if they are good.

What does the meter read of you put the 2 leads together? would that also read 000?
If the ALT tested good and that fuse link is good you could hook everything back up and do a full field test of the ALT and see if you get 14.5 to 16.5 volts at the battery.
If you do get volts with the full field test then I would say the REG is bad.

Yes, the meter reads 000 when I touched to to leads together. That's with the meter set at 2000kohm and 200kohm

How could the voltage regulator be bad if the NAPA tech tested the alternator and said the alternator was good ? I'll google field test.

Found this doing a google search

On older charging systems the voltage regulator was not built into the ALT, it should be bolted to the right side inside of the fender.
If the REG has failed it will not tell the ALT to put any thing out.
The full field test would just back up what the tech at NAPA said of the ALT but not of the REG.

BTW mine is not charging either but my wiring was a mess when I got the truck and I have since swap harness, does not match ALT plug, in the rebuild of the truck so I have some digging I have to do on why.

Thanks again Dave, I was able to find a good picture of the back of the alt showing where to put the red lead and the black lead from test meter. Not sure I can post it from here at work. Lot's of pictures just need to make sure you looking at the correct one.

Oh, I did have a Electrical Tech here at work test the fuseible link and he say's its good. I'll put it back in after work, after I take care of my other project at home.

The new rebuilt alternator has the voltage regulator built in as did the one that came off the truck. I called NAPA he did confirm that they tested that too when they tested the alternator yesterday. The NAPA tech felt bad that I'm still having issues, he suggested that I should check the engine grounds..

It may help you to know this truck 86 F150, is fuel injected.

Sorry it's been a while for an update. Took the truck to my trusted mechanic, he replaced the NAPA alternator. Truck works fine now.
