Question Oil Guard Question

I am running the Oil Guard with the MD1 and its great but my question is this. How much oil do you with the Oil Guards put in or have been putting in just to get a baring on what im doing. I have all 15qts in now and getting ready to do my first change with the Oil Guard and well i am just curious. I dont get really any if very little roughness and shaking in the morning and no smoke. So i think im ok i am just curious.. thanks for the input. By the way Oil Guard is awsome....

I fill three gallons....make sure the truck is level....then slowly fill to the bottom one third of the dipstick.......NOT half way up....is you dipstick bottom gray or back.

The oilguard is very cool

My dipstick is gray it was kinda hard to see. the oil on the dipstick. It almost looked like there wasnt any on it and i had pourd in about 3.5 gallons. I am wondering how much the oilguard holds so i can make sure there is enough. The pressure of the truck is up where its supposed to be and the oil light didnt come on at all but of course it made me a little worried that i was having trouble seeing the new oil on the stick and i put about 14qts in. I know it says 15 in the book but i know that 1-1.5 stays in the high pressure system but then how much stays in the Oil Guard? 1-1.5? So should i be putting in the 15? or more? right now there is about 14. Hard to tell since the 1 gallon jug of MD1 isnt labeled in qts on the side..Thanks for you help..

I tried the 1/3 on the dipstick as Tim suggested a couple of oil changes ago. Made absolutly no difference (I didnt have any problems to start with though). Ford (and the techs at flatratetech) say 15 qts, Im sure thier well aware of the quart or so that stays in the high press system. My oil guard is mounted horizontally so I also drain it at oil change. So with draining the oil guard I put in all 4 gallons, makes it easy, brings it up to the area on the dipstick just above crosshatch.

Many have seen the difference in idling, some have not, it is more preventative then actualy changing the truck........unless you have c94's

So it wont be a problom to put in all 4 gallons? I havent yet. Right now there is only about 14.5 maybe 15 quarts in there. Not seeing much on the stick so made me a little worried thought maybe the 4 gallons was needed...

These engines are so different you might have to experiment. Less oil might work better for you as it did Tim. Mine made no difference so Id rather have more oil. Yes I put in the full 4 gal or 16 qts.

I know there are 4 qts to a gallon. I have there is 14.5 to 15 qts in there that would be 3 gallon and 3 qts no? I am asking if 4 full gallons was needed. Maybe it was worried a little to well or not well enough...

I am also thinking of installing the Oil Gaurd. Is there any special tools needed for install? Can i do it int he driveway? Just curious. And is anyone using the "oil testing" they offer as well? I was thinking of going to Blackstone...but can get both thru Oil Guard. Thoughts on this before i spend 200.00+?

Thanks....Gary

Yes you can do it in the driveway, it is not hard to do. Great instructions.
You can do their oil testing also.
