Alright guys, is the Mac Air Intake worth the money? Will I even notice a diffence in Power, Fuel Econony, the quality of which the engine runs? My main concern is that the magnaflow exhaust flows so well, that I think the computer compensted for the increased flow with more fuel. My fuel economy went down. I was hoping the added air intake velocity would balance it out, along with the other benefits.
Ok, understand that, in theory, the Intake will increase your MPG's by a little bit...but not by much if any at all. You will notice a nice grunt in your shifting from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd. You 3rd gear will be a little better also. That what I noticed anyways.
Also, your truck will look so much cleaner and sound waaaay better than stock. You would really love the whistle and howl it gives your truck when accelerating. I still love mine!
I'd be willing to bet your mpg went down because your foot got heavier. It would be hard to believe the rumble of your new exhaust doesn't urge you to mash the gas just a little bit harder.
I believe the computer is smart enought to add just the right amount of gas. The MAF, IAT, TPS and O2 sensors all keep the computer informed of whats going on so it can provide the proper fuel air mixture.
As far as the MAC instake, don't expect big gains. I noticed a minor improvement under hard acceleration (i.e. near WOT conditions).
I have aftermarket exhaust and the MAC and get consistent 17 mpg running 75 mph on the interstate. I can get up around 18.5-19 if I drive 60-65 mph.
In summary, buy it if you want it. It looks cool and sounds cool, but it ain't like getting turbo for $150.
Some do NOT like oiled media filters. I am sending off a used oil sample today for analysis. If it comes back with low silicon levels, I'll be happy with mine. I do like not having to buy new paper filters every 20,000 miles. Cleaning is a snap and based on all I have seen so far, if properly oiled and installed, it does a good job of filtering.
I think that should sum it up for Cameron. I do not have a MAC intake, put personally if I were you I would buy it. Like Joe said it will give you a nice will and Brian said it will give you some good gain under hard acceleration (which is where I hope the MAC would come in handy) Earlier in the year I was looking to buy one and found this cheap website that has them for 140. All others are mainly 150 or above.
