f150 ranger?
Custom is Ford's "Customizeable" baseline pickup. You can get a custom without any options at all, or customize your options to fit your needs (hence the name. You can have a Custom with Ranger XLT options and trim, but would cost you more than the Ranger XLT package, therefore would make more sence to just by the Ranger XLT package instead. But if you wanted only a few options, like carpet, or wood grain dash, or air-conditioning, or instrument guages options, two tanks, etc, then Custom was the name to buy. The custom was dropped after 1982 in order to make you buy a option package, to get the option you wanted, etc... (well that option only comes with the XLT) etc... It was reintroduced in 1987 and discontinued again, later to be reintroduced again for the 1992-1993, and then dropped again! Currently there is no "customizeable" baseline.
Ranger was a trim option before 1982. It was for people who couldn't make up what options or trim they wanted. Usually comes with color keyed floor mats, headliners, wood grain dash, two tone paints in Regular or Deluxe, chrome trim, etc...
Ranger XLT was a more elaborate trim option than the Ranger. Included everything in the Ranger Plus, Carpet, map pockets, intermittent wipers, Carpeted door panels, Air Conditioning, etc... had Every conciveable chrome trim option, Two Tone paints in Regular, Deluxe, Combination, or Victoria.
Ranger XLT Lariet: Included everything in the Ranger XLT, plus Electric windows, door locks, . Cargo and courtuosy lighting, cruise control, etc...
Options could be deleted or added to any options or trim package.
