What for 390 upgrades?

Hrm. Maybe these engines aren't as prone to pinging as I thought with high compression?

They're very ping resistent with the C8AE-H and D2TE heads. This is the second one I've had that would run on cheap gas with 10-10.5 to 1 compression. The first was a rebuilt 67 GT390 with forged TRW flattops and a Cam Dynamics cam. I don't recall the head casting #'s but they were original to the 67 fastback Stang they came from. The cam specs are also fuzzy, but had around a .516 lift and a 296 something advertised duration. The 68 Merc wouldn't run at all on 87 with the stock cam, and the factory rated 10.5 to 1 ratio. I've heard that with a Comp Cams 268H it would act likewise, something to remember if you have a dished pistoned 9.0-9.5 to 1 390. Might give it a boost instead of being a liability.
