How do I get my rear window down on my 81 Bronco? It is a power window and I got power to the fuse but I can't get my window down and I need to get my window down so that I can get the tailgate down so I can change a brake light. I took the back panel off and I can't see any problems with the wiring i don't have a key that fits it to try that way so what do I do?
I had a 1986 that would not go down. It had a loose latch on the tail gate . Get someone to push in your tail gate while you let your rear window down . It work for me.
had same prob, the wife used bronco to get groceries, came home and couldnt get window down with key or dash switch. i pushed on tail gate as she worked the key. came right down.
If the safety interlock switch on the tailgate is not engaged it won't go down. You can remove the interior access panel, unplug the connector in the middle of the tailgate, and use a battery to jumper the two terminals in the connector to manually engage the motor. That is assuming your motor is good and your window is not somehow binding. There are a lot of other threads on how to do it in more detail that you can find by searching if you need more help.
i have a 91 eb and tried everything. if you can get a key made, using the key, you would be able to hear if the window motor is working. if you hear a click its getting power. i heard the click and figured the motor was locked up, one of many mistakes. argggggggggggggggg. found out later it was the dash switch. have a key made.
No need to have a key made until you find out whether or not the motor even works. That is why you should try running it manually from the battery before bothering with anything else. It may be as simple as the safety interlock switch not being engaged.
I have the back access panel off and I don't see much. There is a set of loose wires that aren't hooked up to anything I guess those are the ones that I try to hook up to the battery? Which one is the positive and which one is the negative? They are so old that it is hard to tell what color they used to be. Also where is this safety interlock switch located? I can't seem to find it. Like I said there isn't much of anything in there.
The switch is actually located on the driver's side talgate latch. It has wires that run to a connector that is mounted on the back side of the middle support beam on the tailgate. It should be a 2 wire electrical connector that is snapped together. You just need to seperate the 2 connectors and jumper the connector that does not look like it is going to the drivers side. As far as positive/negative goes, one way will make the window go up and the other makes it go down so just try it and if nothing happens try the other way.
thanx, I tried it like you said, hooked the battery up to the plug by sticking a paperclip in it and it rolled right down. So then I got the tailgate open and changed my brake light and found the problem with the window. the tail gate had cut through all the wires and they were grounding out on the frame. Now does anybody want to buy a Bronco? It cost's 70$ to fuel it up and it runs out just as fast as if I had put 30$ in a small tank.
Does anyone know how what the problems are with Bronco tailgate wiring harnesses? I installed a new Tailgate and a new wiring harness on my 93 Eddie Bauer. Along with a New Motor and safety striker. I can jump the motor. I have power to the plug under the bumper and power to the tailgate switch. The safety latch works like it's supposed to. I've checked the new harness ( which includes the latch switch as part of it) and it acts different from side to side. With that common open on the switches it looks like they tried to make a simple circuit complicated. I'm about to cut out the switch and wire in my own fix. Has anyone else ran into the frustrating problem?
