Locking Hub Question

My passenger side, front wheel hub is spewing grease all over my rim. I tried to tighten the allen screws today but they are already as tight as they will go, but the hub has play in it, I am able to push and pull on it about 3mm each direction. They are manual locking hubs...I have never tried to lock them and take the truck into 4x4 (transmission is going out). Do I need new hubs? Can the grease coming out be coming from my wheel bearings, or is there a seal between those and my hubs? I hear a lot of talk about warn hubs...how do I know which ones to buy for my truck? What's the difference between internal mount, external mount and flange mount hubs? 1988, 302, AOD.

I have noticed that all hubs have some slight play in them, to the point where you can move them around a little. As for the grease leaking out, I don't think it's that big of a deal unless there is a lot of grease comming out. My old automatic hubs would always leak a little grease on to my center caps that I would have to wipe off. I think, the only real way to find out if your hubs are bad is to lock them in and see if they work, or pull the cover off and look for metal pieces. The Warn hubs are a real nice upgrade, that is what I currently have on my Bronco to replace my old automatic hubs. You can find the Warn manuals at www.broncograveyard.com. The only way that you would need to order the hubs with the conversion kit is if your current hubs have only 3 screws on the cover.
