Question non ford ac ????'s

a friend has a 98 rv on a chevy chassis. there is an electric fan in front of the condenser. the compressor runs for appx 30 minutes then cuts off. i believe the system is short on charge due to bubbles being present in the sightglass, but can't be real short because it does run for 30 minutes. should the fan run when the ac is on, regardless of water temp in the radiator? is this accomplished by a relay somewhere? it seems that the fan, initially would not come on till the water temp was up, then the fan came on. i didn't have my gauges with me so i don't know what the pressures are doing, but if the fan is off and the compressor is on, with the vehicle parked, the pressure has to be going up. is there an hp switch somewhere? or could it be a faulty lp switch, causing the compressor to cut off....the compressor, expansion valve and filter drier are new, as well as the fan clutch...what do you guys think????personally i think he should drive his car and stay at a hotel, but the damage is done...

Many times, a proper charge still won't clear all of the bubbles in the sight glass. Can't say whether the fan should run when the a/c is on without getting in there and seeing how its set up. Stationary, its unlikely its cutting off on l/p, but could be cutting off on h/p. Theoretically, you could find the fan relay, and wire a toggle switch to manually override it. If the system stays on, its likely cutting off on h/p. You could also keep a water mist on the condensor and see if that makes a difference.
