Serpentine belt swap

Hey folks, I have a line on a wrecked 89 econoline with a 5.0. I want to swap the serpentine system onto the v-belt 351HO in my 84 Bronco. The econoline also has the 4 bolt a/c compressor that will allow me to install the on board air system using the york compressor and bracket. I am hoping I can use the system off of the van and will pick it up if they do.

It also has a c-6 if anyone is interested.

Chris

Did you know a serpentine system uses a reverse water pump, and a reverse fan?

I ran into this problem when I swapped out my 300/6 in my 85 F150, for a 95 302HO crate motor. The serpentine system is the only way to go in my opinion. Haven't had to touch it in 5 years.

Oh yea, might check into the timing cover, and I think you'll have to go with an elect. fuel pump. I'm also not sure if the parts from a 302will even fit a 351. (Heads are farther apart.)

Good luck.

I agree I would love to switch to a serpentine belt myself after finding how easy it is to replace. At first I thought what a nightmare until I helped my brother replace the belt on his Saturn, pull back on a tensioner pulley slip the belt in place and let the tensioner go. Over, said, done. How hard would it be to put a serpentine belt on a my 1980 300? Did any years of 300 have the reverse fan and water pump to facilitate this?

Hokey, I have no idea on the 300.

I bought my brackets and pulleys (after looking around for months)at a junk yard. Somehow luck was with me that day as a 89 302 pickup was bieng towed in as I was asking about the brackets. The brackets and pulleys were taken off while I watched, and cost me $250. I thought that was kinda steep at the time, but after 5 years, well worth it. I did have to find a fan, water pump, and timing cover elsewhere though. The only drawback is having to use an elect.fuel pump (noisey). The "system" I think, only came on the fuel injected vehicles, with "in tank" fuel pumps. Maybe they did the 300/6 also, but I don't know.

Good Luck.

Will I have to reverse the Electric fan to make this swap work?

Holy crap this is an old thread. Regardless, the 302 brackets will not work on a 351. The 351 has a taller deck and the heads are farther apart.

I read this thread and I have a 302 EFI. Which I know if it's all off a 302 it will fit. I was wondering more about which direction the E-Fan should turn.

you are joking right?

the e fan should pull air thru the radiator ( if behind it)

or push it thru (if in front)

it has nothing to do with the belt
