Noticed today, well actually the local cop noticed my passenger side brake light wasn't working, but my turn signal is working and running light on that side work. Does this sound like a bad socket or a ground? I tapped on the light but nothing happened. Checked bulb not blown. Any suggestions before I go out and buy another. I actually wouldn't mind upgrading to the 87-91 Style tail light sockets.
Hi, just a thought. Your brake lights work thru your turn signal switch, if the turn signals are working...thr brake light should also {in referance to the ground/socket} so you may have a conection problem at the steering colum or the switch could have a malfunction. Just something to think on, Mike
Since the turn signal and the brake both use the same bulb and socket, and one works but the other doesn't, it stands to reason the problem lies in the brake wiring circuit.
My first suspicion is the turn signal switch (search the archives on this topic). I'd
try wiggling the lever while applying the brakes, see if you can make it work. The
brake & turn signal lights use the same filament in the bulb; the running light uses
a different filament.

Both the brake and the turn lights also use the same wiring after the turnsignal switch. If the other side brake light is working, then that means the wiring and the brake circuit before the turnsignal switch is also working, so I agree with the others, you may have a problem with the turnsignal switch.
