I have a 1988 Bronco with a new 351W and a C-6. Its showing 103,000 miles. The previous owner did not maintain it well. The tranny hesitates a bit, and feels like it might be slipping. While the engine was being re-built the mechanic flushed the tranny and changed the filter. I'm not dure if he really flushed it but thats what he claimed. When we picked it up from the shop it shifted excellent, like it was new. Now it doesn't shift as good. It hesitates and feels like its slipping, how can i fix this cheaply? I saw a case of Lucas Transmission oil thats supposed to help out. Has anybody had experience with this oil?
i am in the exact same boat with the same truck the answers i have gotten from the tranny forum seem to point towards rebuilding however if u can remove the tranny urself a rebuild isnt to bad $500 or so or do it urself because everyone has told me it was fairly simple the rebuild kits at autozone are about $130 but you would prolly want to replace the cooler with a bigger one and get a better torque converter at the same time
as far as trying lucas well i guess it cant hurt transmition additives are a hot topic and no one really convinced me one way or the other but if use any i have heard lucas is the best
if u dont get the answers ur looking for here u can try the tranny forum
How long has it been since the mechanic did the trannyflush/filter change. with motor running check fluid level c-6 dont like to run low. also smell the fluid if its slipping it will have a burnt/rotten egg type smell. if those check out it might just be time for another service.
well then it may be time for a rebuild. i would take it to a few different tranny shops and have them give an opinion on your symptoms. let them drive it and such.
