shift indicator broke, is there a spring inside

I have read through the posts, and have take my shift indicator apart. the cable is good, but don't see how the indicatior gets back to park without a spring. should there be on in there, is mine missing??

I never had mine apart that far, but yes I think theres a spring up inside the indicator to keep tention on the cable.I just repaired the plastic bracket that holds the cable inplace, just before it loops onto the shift lever, yours isn't broke there is it?

I just ted a rubberband around it so now it works, but I know with time this will not hold up. I could not find the proper spring, if it indead does use one.
