emissions removal

I have an 86 f 150 with a 5.0 efi. I am takeing the engine out to replace gaskets, seals, etc and I am wondering if I can remove the air pump and the cross over pipe at the back of the engine, that suplies air and exahust gases to the rear of the heads, without affecting anything else. I don't see any wires going to the eec, and its been leaking for years anyways, with seemingly no effect on the way the truck runs. This thing is just a major anoyance, and I have seen guys with carbed engines do this many times with no problems.

Someone had already done this to mine, its a 86 EFI 5.0 also, they removed the air pump, plug the holes in the back of the heads with large bolts and replaced the manifolds without the small pipes that were there. Performance wise...it runs excellent. Starts up first time and idles nicely, I had to replace mostly all the sensors because they didn't do those, but at least I know everything works. The computer was a different monster all together, it wouldn't give me codes, and was making me think I had more problems than most do, so it got replaced too, now I'm able to get the codes, and right now I'm fighting with the knock sensor, but I just replaced it, and so far its running good.
