Hello everyone. I need some help. I have a 2.9L 89 with a 5 speed manual trans 4X4. Anyhow, it runs great, but I have a small problem that just began last week when I was at Deer Valley near Tahoe. Anyhow, my truck was running great until I crossed a small river bed. The water was a little deep and went just over the 1/2 way mark of my tires. I have 32 11.50s with a 2 inch suspension and 3 inch body lift. Well, since then my truck has been idling a bit rough and bouncing between 800 and 1100 RPMs. It's fine once I get going and still has all of its power and is just fine otherwise. I do want to say that I stopped mid crossing because it made for a cool picture. It doesn't smell like exhaust and there are no other symptoms to speak of. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? FYI my truck has 236,000 miles, but still kicks hard. I just replaced the clutch disk, pressure plate & throwout bearing with centerforce products. I also replaced the slave and master cylinders. It has new champion truck plugs, cap, rotor, wires, oil & filter change, new fram air hog filter, and the O2 sensor can't have more than 10K on it since I replaced it. All of these repairs were done before the problem began approximately 5000 miles ago.

The computer isn't showing anything wrong when I hooked it up to the tester. I'm thinking that maybe some water got into the gas tank, or perhaps I have a short because my fuel pump sputters a bit when I start her up. The pump has over 105,000 miles on it and the pig tail attached to the wires that come out of the tank are pretty worn. Do you think this may be part of if not the problem? I was also thinking that my gas cap is about six years or so, although it did pass the smog check just 4 months ago. Any thoughts?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

If you ran thru water you probably got the distributor wet. Pull the cap off and wipe it out..spray it with a silicone spray..WD40 works well. I get the same problem all the time when i'm wheeling. ever had a tune up done?
Yeah, I do all of my own work on my truck. I love working on cars, but sometimes it's the small stuff that kicks my butt. I just gave it a MAJOR tune up about 5000K miles ago, but I hadn't even thought about the cap being wet on the inside after wheeling. I'll check that out. Thanks for the idea. I'll let you know if it works.
