emissions/ egr valve problem

I need to know how i should go about blocking off the short pipe comeing out of the carb spacer on my 85 300 6 with the feedback carb. I have a good amount of exhaust comeing out of the pipe and need to block it off or remove it if possible. The truck has no cat or air pump on it anymore, reomoved a while back befor i got it. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If i just block off the pipe will it make the engine ping or cause other problems? i am planning to do a duraspark 2 ignition as soon as funds allow. once i do the duraspark change i will get either a 2 barrel adapter or a non egr spacer.
Thanks, Ben

If you are talking about the tube that hooks to the spacer, and goes to the exhaust manifold, it shouldn't be a problem in removing it. All this tube does is pump exaust from the manifold to the EGR valve back into the intake for reburning. If the truck is smog exempt in your state, I foresee no problems at all. Just block it with a good heat, rust resistant pipe fitting.

its the pipe that is about 3/4 in diameter and goes out towards the radiator. i think it used to run into the air pump, but i am not forsure. i think i am just gonna put a plug on the end of it and see how it does.

This is what mine has on my 1981 california with feedback carb. Yours may be different.

On mine, the tube that hooks into the air pump is called, (by ford and no one else) a thermactor tube. One end hooks up to the airpump, goes to a thermactor valve at the back of the engine on the right side of the truck. From there a MCU controls the valve with two solonoids (TAB and TAD). From the Thermactor valve, air is either diverted to the cats, open air, or back to the thermactor tube's lower tube, through a check valve, then back into the exaust ports in the head.

If this short tube of yours hooked up to the air pump, and went to the spacer, the theory in how it works is still the same. Air pump to thermactor valves to check valves to either the cat, or to the exaust (somehow) . The spacer is connected to the exaust, so I'm guessing that is how yours got air injected into the exaust during cold start operation. Designed different to do the same job... etc.. Possibly. My best guess, with the info given.

Ford smog systems varied from state to state year to year, and parts and systems ranges wildly, but yet each system does the same job. :S Unfortunatly I only know about california systems.

My best guess is that you can remove it no problem and plug it..

Anybody know different please correct me.

Perty sure the pipe in question has 3/4" pipe threads. Just unscrew the pipe and replace it with a pipe plug from your local hardware store.

I agree with F150FIXER.. I think it it a 1/2 or 3/4 pipe thread.. get a pipe plug, or just use a piece of the rubber hose that was on it and plug the one end of the hose with a piece of broomstick like I did
