hi i have a 04 350 with 1200 miles on it. build date is 06/04. i have a drip of oil on the bell housing.i know this has been a problem.has ford come up with the solution to the problem yet. should i take it in and let them put a rear main in it or would i just be wasting my time.i love the truck other than the fact that it is dripping oil. thank you
If it is thick and just hangs there, it is excesive assembly lube that has melted. If that is the case, don't worry about it. Hot Rod Magazine is probably not going to have a bikini clad model lay next to it and take pictures.
If it is leaving a puddle on your driveway, it is a leak and can be one or two of several things and you need to take it to the service department. They will probably put a dye in the oil to see where it is leaking.
I have a 1/04 cc 250 psd longbed with the same drip.just brought it to dealer and they confirmed with dye rear main is leaking. It has been since new but,was hoping for an assembly lube miricle.Needless to say I'm not looking forward to how my truck might fare with the local dealership.Only have 4750 miles and driver side glow plug harness need's replacement as well.It took the dealer 2 full days to determine this.I'll be bringing it in 8/17 and keep u posted.
Hello out there in diesel land,Would any one know what the white, black, blue& red wire's located by the master cyl are?I have a 1/04 PSD CC LONG BED and connected my brake controller up to the factor plug under dash,is this something to do with the trailer wiring?

I had my 1/03 build replaced several times.. (3) in fact.. Number one,, because I don't want to deal with a 'leaker' or the 'mess' at a later date, and/or after warranty, and it 'just don't seem right' that a brand new truck should leak.. After a couple attempts, and one leak (I believe) caused by the tech after a rear engine cover 'precausionary' re-seal the 6.0 is TOTALLY dry.. But you do need to have it checked (dye) to make sure that it is in fact the rear main, and not another 'masked' leak from up higher on the engine, or from another area that appears as the rear main..
Let'em have a chance at a fix... Mine was a success, and I don't always 'peek' under it to see if it gotten worse..
Likewise, I had mine replace and it only took a half day to do the job. The first repair leaked so they did it again in another half day. I got some seepage after that was attributed to oil that was blown into the starter. After they cleaned that it has been fine. That all happened in the first 7500 miles and I am at 20,000 and everything is fine.

First Welcome to FTE....
Second, there is a bundle of 5 "owner usable" wires from the factory for you to use for whatever
Nice of them to do that so we don't have to get the "hot foot" from all the holes we used to have to drill in the floorboard
Here's my tale: Mine is an 04/03 250, and I had the same drop on my bell housing which I first discovered at about 1200 miles last March. First clue was a small oil spot on my garage floor. I've been monitoring it ever since...I drive about 80 miles each day and every nite when I crawl under I usually see just a faint line of oil in the crevice near the main seal. Took it finally to my dealer in June who told me it was excess assembly lube but agreed to put the dye in anyway just to check. They kept the truck for a day but couldn't replicate any leak, so I drove it for a week, brought it back, and the manager said they'd have to replace the seal. Up to this point, I was still hoping it was going to be a case of excess lube. (I've read at least two other postings of people whose trucks just stopped leaking after about 6500 miles in one case and, I think, about 10,000 miles in the other!) I asked the manager if that meant his tech had seen a floresence using a black light. He said yes, and so I made an appointment to have the seal replaced. (I wasn't happy that they wanted to keep my truck for three days, especially since a seal replacement only takes half a day....also dealer said they hadn't seen this problem before and they never had to replace a seal in any other 6.0!) Now, being a fairly cautious type under these circumstances, I went out and bought my own black light to verify that tis was an oil leak.....guess what! No floresence! I cancelled the appointment and decided just to keep monitoring the leak myself. I now have 8900 miles on the truck, and for the last two weeks my bell housing has been bone dry! I still check every nite, thinking each nite that this is going to be when the leak is back. A case of excessive lube finally gone after so many miles? I'm hoping so. Sorry for the long post....I'll keep you updated in a month or so....if I'm still dry, then
