Question Ticking 223

My '64 with a 223 six makes a steady ticking noise. It sounds heavier (and faster) than a lifter, and I pulled the valve cover and felt the rockers for ticking as it idled. Could it be a wrist pin, or broken ring? It doesn't sound heavy enough for a rod bearing. I haven't driven it enough to know anything else about it.

if it is ticking, not knocking, it could be an exhaust leak. they will sound like a tick if they are small. what does it sound like under throttle? also check the plugs and make sure they are all tight. a loose plug will tick also.

It seems to definitely be internal. Sounds the same at all speeds (changes speed in proportion to RPM). It's hard to describe- duller than a ticking sound. Seems to come and go, but you can always hear it. Plugs are tight.

Has anyone done a clutch lately? Seen bolts back out of the presure plate and flywheel to crank to make noises like that. Also check that the starter is bolted up tight.
