I could use some advise on getting my hood to come down all the way in the back. I just replaced the springs and hinges seem good. I tried loosening the bolts and holding the hood all the way up while tightening but that doesn't seem to work
There was a post several months ago about this same thing. If I remember correctly, the trick is to tilt the hinges back a little to get the spring to pull down.
I think this is how I did it:
Tighten the bolts with the hinges in the lowest position.
Close the hood and make sure the hinges aren't too low.
Loosen the front bolt and move the front of the hinge up and retighten it.
Again, if I remember correctly, this worked for me.
Both of the previous comments will get you on the way. If you look at the linkage on the hinge, you will see that you need to get the hinge to "break over center" in order to allow the hood to lower. In other words, if the hood is sitting too high, "probably" you need to either raise or move the hinge forward a little to make it break over. If you study it a little, it will make more sense than trying to explain it, and it's kind of counter-intuitive. And lubrication is essential!
Good Luck! I think all of us have been in your shoes at least once! Steve
I've been using that spray-on white lithium grease for lots of stuff and it works pretty good. You could also use some spray silicone, but the grease is thicker and I think it lasts longer.
