i cleaned my throttle body and i disconnected what i believe to be the throttle postion sensor. well when i hooked everything back up the truck was idiling high,so i adjusted the idle stop down and got it to 750 rpm.well then my sevice engine light came on and then i disconnected the battry to reset it and went through the steps to let the computer relearn itself.the service light goes out until i start it up a second time.the truck is kicking hard into gears and sometimes not shifting and runs up to 5500 rpms.i had it going 30 mph and tried to accelerate and it would not accellerate.any advice would be a help and thanks in advance.
I don't know which screw you played with, but there is no idle adjustment screw on your truck. If you remember what you did, go back and put it back to the status it was before. The computer and the IAC (idle air control) valve regulate idle on your Ranger. Nothing else.
Since you are getting the CEL, the first thing you have to do is pull the trouble codes from the computer. AutoZone or other national auto parts stores will usually do this for free. Post the codes here and then we will be better able to help you.
