What sort of an engine are we talking about here? Did it come with the truck or is it a swap? Ford has offered Cobra Jet versions of several of its engines over the years. The CV IFS is pretty unobtrusive so I'd guess that almost any header system will work.

I don't think the cv swap is goin to be the issue. Blair Patrick is building me a 445 stroker with bbm cobra jet heads. I just can't seem to find an application for those heads in a truck since ford never put a 428 in a truck. And it may be that a set of headers for a car would work, since I would have more engine bay room than a car. I just need someone to verify that

The 428 is an FE engine. Externally, FEs are virtually indistinguishable from one another. Ford put FEs in trucks up to '76.
Now that we know you have an FE, the variables are reduced. Is it a 2 or 4 wheel drive? Does it have a midship fuel tank?

Truck is 2wd but will have a rear sump oil pan from a 4wd due to the cv swap. The fuel tank is in the rear behind axel.

Do the heads have the exhaust flange bolts at 6 & 12 o'clock like standard truck or are they offset like the 390 GT heads?

You meant 16 bolts per head, right? According to FE guru Barry Robotnik, the FE Cobra Jet head has eight more fasteners than other FE heads in order to accommodate "installation in shock-tower-equipped Mustangs and Torinos." See the last paragraph here.
This doesn't mean that you have to use all of them.
I am using the Edelbrock aluminum heads for FE which are also tapped for 16 fasteners per head. I will only be using the two at 6 and 12 o'clock. My '76 F-150 RWD LWB truck has the standard front suspension.
Not having a mid-ship tank is another good thing. Those tend to interfere with long tube headers.
So the bottom line is that you have a very wide range of headers to choose from. Almost anything that is available will fit. Now, all you have to be concerned with is getting the steering linkage to clear the pipes you choose.

CV swap is rack n pinion....no problem there.

The issue is and always will be long tubes and the trans cross member unless special shorties of midlength headers whci provide more room to work with.

Yes, 16 bolts per head. Bbm auluminum head. The issue is that standard Fe headers are not going to line up with the exhaust port location on the cobra jet head. I will be losing some hp by not allowing the exhaust gasses to escape with out the standard Fe header blocking some of it off.

Agreed that it shouldn't be a problem but some have found ways to get boxed in. Getting the right hardware is great insurance against that.

Agreed again and I've always thought that your solution is the most elegant way around.
