Anybody ever convert a drw to a srw? I know they make kits for srw to drw. What would be involved converting to srw? New Rims? Could the fender extensions be removed from a 01 drw? When I purchased the truck I had planned on getting a fifth wheel trailer. Well things have changed and that is not in the future. Seems silly to drive around a drw. Any thoughts? Thanks
Hmmmm....different rims....ones that fit a SRW, take off the extenders in the front, remove the outboard fenders....that should get you there. Remember, you'll have to patch the fender bolt holes in the bed sides. I think there are a few folks that hang out here that have done the same thing and can give you more details.........
The only dualie I'm familiar with is one of our work trucks which is 4X4 but when looking at it it sure seems like the front wheel hubs have a wider offset to work with the wheel rims. Switch them too?
The bedsides under the duallie fenders are all hacked up. The easier and probably cheaper way to do it would be to buy a whole srw bed from a recycler or a place that installs utility bodies. If your truck is one of the more common colors you might even get lucky and find a match.
There is a white short bed (just The box and tailgate with lights) for sale just down the road from the fire stn here in phx. Let me know if you want the price and info I will stop for you.
ok, so i finally got my 2001F350 dually( only cause it was a good deal) and am ready to do the conversion to srw. So........... anybody have any knowledge or info it would be GREAT! Or even some part numbers! I think the front hubs have a extender on it that can be unbolted or replaced with a srw hub, and as far as the rear axle,......?????
Cheers

I am pretty sure that there is no difference in the front hubs other than the extenders. Once you take them off, I think you can bolt up a wheel/tire from a SRW. The rears may be a different story, but I cannot remember. Hopefully the SRW rims will bolt right up once you remove the duals.........
I believe there are extenders on the rear also , to compensate for the inside wheel being reverse mounted . The dually bed is not the same as on SRW , on some duallies ( not sure about Ford ) the frame and rear axle is narrower also . You can remove the adaptors on the front and bolt up the single style wheel .
The dually rear end is 4" wider than a SRW rear end.
The beds are the same on both, the dually just has been chewed on with a saw before the flares went on.(Actually different outside skin panels)
The frames are the same on the trucks that had a bed installed from the factory, if it came as a cab and chassis the frame is narrower.
Bolt patterns of the wheels are the same for dual and single wheels.
Hey i was looking under my dually fender and it looks like a stock bo with some sawzal chop job) Any idea if some stock rims would bolt up to the rear axle? Since its 4" wider-2" each side i would think that they might bolt up..... as long as they clear the disc caliper. Im gonna give it a try, didnt really wanna swap axles eh!
Man I wish you lived closer to me, I have a 2000 F350 SRW, and would like to switch to DRW. Heck I'd trade beds, wheels, rear axle, everythign, My truck is 4x4 with the 8ft bed. And I'm just about to put a new paintjob on it.
