Power Steering fluid... wrong type, help

My power steering fluid is leaking about as fast as I can put it into the reservoir on the 79 F150 I just purchased. It was very low, and led me to concens over damaging the pump when I was out on the road the other day. The manual calls for Type F, but the quickie mart I was at only had Dextron II (which I think does double duty as ATF). I used it and kept my fingers crossed.

Anyway, is this bad? Should I empty and use only Type F? Will this potentially cause damage?

Thanks.

If its leaking that bad it wouldn't be there long enought to hurt a thing if it leaking that bad I think i would get a new pump .The tranny fluid is not good on the rubber parts of your supspion or te motor moumt on that side of ther truck .JMO

Dont worry, it doesnt really matter. All power steering fluid does is act as hydraulic fluid. Dexron/Mercon is just as good as a hydraulic fluid. Only Honda makes a big deal about special PS fluids. When Ford switched from F to Mercon for PS in the late 90's, the pump and steering unit were exactly the same.
