I was thinking about replacing the engine in my 64 F100. It currently has a 292 with the T 98 transmission. Does anyone know what other engines would bolt on to my transmission? I would like something high performance but not extreamly expensive (under $2000). Thanks!
I need to do exactly the same thing. I'm not very experienced in swapping engines, so I don't know what a t98 transmission is. My tranny is a 4-speed manual. Have you found out what engines will bolt up to it without changing motor mounts, etc?
The engine in my truck is shot, so I'm just looking to replace it. Does your engine run? What is its condition? (mileage, oil-use, etc.) I'd be interested in buying it from you if it's got some good life left in it (we're getting it running for my 14-yr old son, so high performance is not a concern.)
There is a year model break where the bellhousing to transmission bolts change shape and pattern. I don't remember what year, but if you find a similar model year engine with a bellhousing it will bolt right up. If you call advance adapters or go to their website there is a bunch of really useful info there. As long as you are after the change with both vehicles then any ford engine with a manual trans will bolt up to the tranny.
The 292 is a good engine that has plenty of pep for a beginner. You can rebuild one on the cheap for about 1500 and have a good engine that will be fuel efficient and have decent hp. They are also pretty tough in stock form.
I have a 292 w/4 spd tran for sale, has minor some problems, i hope, blowing smoke from pass. side of engine and ticks. someone before me said he replaced the rods but didnt do adjustment afterwards. other than that runs great and starts right up!! Oh, one more thing it has dual exhaust
Opps, YHVH777 and I are the same people,
hmmm, that didnt sound good.
Anyway, you can email or reply and depending were i am at, work or home, I'll get back to asap.
