I am doing a swap from an AOD to a C6.
I finally blew up the AOD, ironically while delivering another C6 to the neighboring town, luckily only 5 km from my home after the delivery.
The C6 is out of a 1988 F150 5.0L and is going into a 1990 F150 5.0L
Is there any final things I should know about the swap? Should all go good?
I notice a round plug with 4 or 5 wires in a circular pattern coming from the transmission valve body area for the AOD. Will this pose a problem?
Are there any other hidden problems that may arise?

I had originally posted this message in a forum that would most likely get me a reply of some degree, but it would have been the wrong forum. This was moved to the Transmission, Differential, Axle and Transfer Case forum instead. I am sure there is good talent out there somewhere that could help me figure the wiring aspect of the above swap. Thanks in advance.
Drive shaft lengths are different (if 2wd), shifter linkage may be different, the plug you mention is for neutral safety switch/backup lights. There will be a short wire harness adaptor ~12" long, you will need the neutral safety switch/backup light switch from the C6, I think it plugs into the chassis wiring harness without an adaptor. Transmission cooling lines are different too. The rest of the stuff should bolt right up.
I messed up......
Everything seemed to go as planned after I changed out the air tube that crosses the heads and my cracked manifolds and swapped the linkages over.
All lined up and ready to bolt together and the bolts didn't want to seat the transmission. I said to myself..........."Self, dont tighten the bolt anymore there is issues here that need to be answered." "Aww just one more turn." then "POP". I first thought it was the transmission clearing the dowel pin but in all actuality I had broken the lower left bolt ear clean off the case just below the dowel. This was totally my fault for not properly seating the torque converter. I had cold welded (Permatex) the break and all looks good so far. The break being just below the dowel, will the dowel help take up the pressure being applied on the repair or should I have the repair welded?
I swapped all the linkages. They were roughly 1" shorter in length than the AOD linkages. as for the wiring harness, it is not the same. I needed to cut the truck side plug off the donor truck and splice it in my wiring harness to make it work. Other than that my truck has not worked better.
As far as I am concerned, a 5.0L does not create enough stock power to make the overdrive in the AOD to work efficiently. I am a firm believer that this added to the overheating of the AOD.
The C6 is working flawlessly.
