76 F150 Ranger XLT; be careful on the cam advance as you are more prone to have detonation vs straight up cam timing. Advance will compensate for timing chain stretch or wear as the miles go up. Careful as this fuel if you can call it that is marginal and on the FE's without detonation sensors. Without variable cam timing you must chose what rpm's you want your engine to run at. I'd say 75% of engines are over camed for the type of work they do, big cams for bad heads. My $.02. Carl...............o&o>..............

Still not sure if I want it straight up or advanced a little, but now I see why 9 keyway settings could be useful. Especially with a radical build and a radical cam.

Thanks again

You also have to Make sure your cam manufacture hasnt allready ground in a +4* on your cam too..because some grind them at 0* and some at +4*

So if you have a cam thats ground at +4, you'LL want to install it straight up!!

RapidRuss, your correct as i forgot to mention that some cam companies add 4 degrees advance to their cams. I never pay attention to if they add the 4 degrees or not as i install my cams with a degree wheel. All cams should be installed this way and all lobes checked for timing. Cams can be off between different cylinders as well as intake/exhaust on the same cylinder. I had a 427 that idled with a strange exhaust sound, the Edelbrock cam on one intake was off 3 degrees vs the other cylinders and another cylinder had the exhaust open 6 1/2 degrees later than the others. All in all i purchased this running engine for $750 with standard bore."Trust No One" ( X-Files).
