Story continued, I was finally able to get around under the truck and found that the numbers we were looking at were molded on the bloack and not stamped as the engine serial number should be so will have to go to the dealer and raise some cane and see what results I can get, had hoped to find it on my own so that I could tell them that I could do what they couldn't. As far as preformance my truck is doing great have no gripes, made a trip to Dallas and back Saturday 773 miles round trip and avgeraged 18.4 mpg hand calculated, ran about 68 mph going was following a big truck and that was tops for it and then ran into a big rain storm coming back that had me down to 50 mph for maybe 50 miles. Do have a question changed oil for the first time before the trip @2380(wanted 2500) and then on the trip noticed that where I had been turning 2050 rpm @ 70 mph was now turning 1950 any one think of a reason? Well will continue to search for the engine build date as I see a lot of importance based on it. And again thanks for all the suggestions and help.

Reason: hand calculated milage
You noticed 100 rpm difference ?
Wow - u watch closely
please glance up at the road every once in a while if you would
but seriously, it could have been the difference between the indicated speed of 69.5 mph and 70.5 mph...
Any change in tires or air pressure or load to change the diameter/circumference of your drive tires ?
If your final drive ratio didn't change, then your rpms per mph shouldn't change ....
if you think about it the only "loose" part between the rpms of the motor and the rpms of the drive tires is your tranny... so it should be the same rpms for the same speed...
Well the story continues still no build date and just had another place pointed out for the engine serial#(left rear corner of crankcase?) so will check that today.
Took the truck back out on the road and to check the RPM vs MPH and still notice a slight reduction in rpms at 70 mph(1950vs2050) but hard to tell with this type instuments, digital would make it easier and I did look up every now and then really didn't make much difference as I am the only one driving that speed and it is the speed limit and the rest are long gone.
I am having a great time with this machine, it really has impressed me and would like to get it hooked up to the camper and take a good long trip then come back and brag. Thanks for the help.

Well have finally been able to find what should be the engine serial number although it is not stamped into the block as I had been lead to believe but on a white bar tag[6544035-EG045CB]. Can anyone tell me if this is actually the engine serial number and how can I use it to get the engine build date?
THANKS WES
