I have an '85 Bronco II and I am going to be doing some stuff to it. One thing I want to do to it is change the steering column to one I saw for an old bronco (67?) and dont know how hard that would be. Could anyone help me with this?
Aren't newer steering columns "collapsable" in the event of a front end collision?
Aren't older steering columns deadly in some front end collisions?
Will the benefits outweigh the bad possibilities?
I'm not sure when detroit/dearborn made the switch but it's something to consider. Just my 2 cents worth.
the place you put the key, on the older units it was in the dash, on the newer it is on the column. You also don't have an ignition switch on the column as well.
oohhhh... I see. Well, ok, say I found a different column that I liked with the ignition switch on the column, what would be stopping me from putting it in? Or would it depend on what the other steering column was made for. I am not talking about upgrading to CC or anything like that either.
biggest troubles are the firewall plate and the column munts, as well as the hookup to the steering box. Rangers and Bronc II's trade back and forth, so that's your safest and easiest way to go.
