I have An early production 2001 250SD I want to replace both the front and rear differential covers and i am not sure what covers i need. the front is a dana 50 Correct? the rear is a sterling 10.5, does this take the same cover as a dana 60? help me out Thanks
The rear Ford/Sterling/Visteon 10.5" takes the same cover as a 1980-1997 F250/350 Ford/Sterling 10.25" and 1997-2003 F250 LD/F150 7700#. Do not use one from a 9.75" Ford axle found on the 5.4L F150's. That cover is smaller by about 1" diagonally even though they look similar. I think the Dana 50 and 60 use the same cover.
I noticed the other day the my rear diff cover is peeling (black paint) and under there's rust I was sooo ****ed, I haven't had a chance to take it to Ford, but is this common?

Unfortunately - Yes.
Who is gonna take the time to sandblast, prime and paint anymore? Costs way too much.
Where's Merle? "Make a Ford and Chevy still last ten years like they should..."
...and I'd add, "Make 'em blast, prime and paint from the hitch to the hood."
well until I try I won't know, besides I know the service manager at my local dealer (wife worked there, so I got to know the staff real good ) and it's worth a shot, I might have to buy the guy lunch, but it'll be worth it either way
I don't know if Sonic's is better than In & Out or Tommy's because we don't have either here in Allen. Maybe we'll take a drive on over your way someday, FN. But Sonic's is open late and it's a drive in so you don't even have to get out of the ol' 250. I never heard of Booger's though. Maybe you mean Whatabooger's or Watson Booger? I'm sure you don't mean Booger King. I was in NB last saturday, but real late, around 11PM so Booger's would have probably been closed. I didn't see any black dually V10's either. My diff cover still looks great, btw.
