Need Advice on Third Party Extended Warrenty

My 02 Supercrew runs out of factory warrenty in October, and for the first time in my life I am considering buying an extended warrenty. My selling Ford dealer sells an extended warrenty from a company called First Extended Service company. They will cover my truck for 75000 miles /7 years for 1201.00.
I an VERY leery about buying a third party warrenty, but I have had very good service from this dealer, and they say these have worked better than the Ford warrenty.
First Extended covers 1400 items versus 500 from Ford.
I don't have the price on the Ford ext. warrenty yet, but I know it is much higher.
I know from experience that if something seems too good to be true, it usually is, but my money is tight, and I am attracted to this offer.
Anyone out there have any experience with this company. I would really be interested in any comments, good or bad.

Thanks in advance,
Bruce

Most folks will tell you that if it isn't a Ford-backed warranty not to waste your money. If the underwriter of the warranty goes under, which Ford probably won't anytime soon, you're stuck with a worthless piece of paper. Another consideration is the terms of the warranty. Do you pay up front and get reimbursed later or does the mechanic send the bill straight to the insurance company. I'm sure you'll get a lot more responses. Some pro, some con. Just review each and do your research.

I have heard many stories about aftermarket warranty companies and none of them have been good. My own experience with one purchased thru a Ford dealer was bad also.

ask to read the terms. i got an extended warranty on my 99 E150 that took me to 75K miles. i never needed it, thankfully, but i read the fine print one day. if the warranty company could prove you didn't care for the vehicle: no warranty. this means providing all receipts for oil changes, Manufacturers' recomended scheduled maint, etc. if you didn't follow everything to the letter of the warranty, they 'aint paying.

I'll repeat an incident that I've related here before. When I was working the service counter at one Ford dealer, we had a Ranger come in with an engine problem, and it had a non-Ford extended warranty. Had to call in the repair to get an authorization (almost never necessary with Ford's ESP, by the way), and they insisted on sending out an "inspector." Wanted to make sure we diagnosed it right, blah, blah, blah. He looked at the truck and said, "sorry, we can't cover it." I asked him just what the problem was. He pointed at the license plate, which were VOLUNTEER FIREMAN plates. He said, "that constitutes commercial use, and we don't cover commercial-use vehicles."

Any more questions?

I don't know if I'd get one. My mom had one that she bought a year ago, and the company just went out of business. Fortunately, she didn't pay for it all at once, so she didn't lose too much. What previous posters have said is correct, If it ain't Ford, don't get it.

In all fairness I have to say that my parents both have ESP on their vehicles, one a Ranger and the other a Boo-ick LeSabre. Both have had to use them unfortunately. My dad's tranny died on his ranger about 3k miles outside the factory warranty. OF course the ESP only authorized a rebuilt tranny but he hasn't had any more problems. My mom, who used to be diehard Chebby, is reconsidering her decision on the Boo-ick. Havin lots of problems. Could be the fact she used to use the mechanic referenced in my name lol. And no, I don't know if they're factory ESPs or not.

Thanks guys.
I did a search on the internet, and found lots of complaints about this third party company.
Also, I also found the Ford price is negotiable, and not that much more .
I still haven't decided to buy an extended warranty, but if I do, it will be Ford ESP.
Thanks to all who responded.

I do know of one good extendedwarranty company, but it is only in Louisiana, it is called LDS. We have the Ultimate Plan on our Explorer and it has litterally payed for itself. I would definately buy from them again !!!!!

Question 2002 F350 crew cab dually diesel 4x4

Just purchased this truck from a dealer in Terrel, TX. It had 65,000 miles and I was able to get it for $28,000. Car fax checked out clean and the dealership gave a 30 day, 3,000 mile full warranty bumper to bumper. Yes, I got it in writing. Question is, the ESP plan they offered was 2 year, 24,000 mile bumper to bumper for $2,000. This was with a $100 deductible. That was the longest and best I could get.

Should I go with this plan? What are the experiences with the members of this board for this type of truck?

Oh, by the way, I am selling the Bronco due to F350 purchase. It is currently located in Newburgh, NY where I am stationed as a newly activated reservist.

Thanks!

Kevin
