A friend of mine that has a 12-sec. blown 1995 Lightning told me the other day that I can get a transmission pan and filter from a 99-up 7.3 PowerStroke diesel Super Duty truck that's a direct bolt-on to my 1992 E4OD tranny and hold 2-3 more quarts of fluid...does anybody know if this is true? I want to install a good shift kit as well. What's the best shift kit (or module) for the E4OD? Also, I'll be installing 4.10 gears front and rear soon- how do I go about recalibrating my speedo AFFORDABLY?
The speedo does not need to be recalibrated for a gear change on your '92 truck. The speedo reads from the VSS in the rear axle housing and the VSS reads from a 'tone ring' on the ring gear, so it spins with the ring gear, whatever ratio the gear is. A tire size change will require recalibration though. There is a write-up in the 'tech articles' section of this website on how to recalibrate the speedo yourself. It can be done up to 6 times for the life of the truck.
The E4OD questions I'm not too familiar with. I know there are aftermarket pans that hold more oil and on some transmissions the 4x4 version of the same trans sometimes has a deeper pan than the 2wd version.

I'm sorry....I should've stated before that it IS a 4X4. My bad.
