I know I still smell like smoke. Even as a smoker, I can smell it on people from 10 feet away. And, it's possible (even likely) that the kids know (they're 11 and 13 and pretty bright). Still, I like to believe they don't know and I'll do everything I can to shield them from my stupidity.
I suppose the best way to solve this is just to quit.
I will stick up for the teens. I am a high school teacher and can tell you, while yes, there are some that are bad a majority of kids are really good kids. I have about two or three per class that must not get much attention at home and they want it at school. When I contact mommy and daddy I can tell my the kids act the way that they do.
I really do not understand parents that do not buckle their kids up. My two are buckled in before we move and they must be when we stop.

K.
I smoke too, and want to quit. I convince myself that no one knows, but it's worse now that my exhaust leak is fixed...it's more obvious. I'll quit with you. It's easier knowing that someone else is quitting, and they want a cigarette just as bad as you do, so you know they're feeling the same way.
Kudos to that boy as well, it's nice to know that there are people like him out there. I hope you get to see him again and tell him.
It's really nice to see that somebody like that could be such a good example for the rest of us. I don't know where my parents were coming from. Both of my parents smoked when I was little and didn't think a thing of it. It has really taken its toll on me as I have extremely bad allergies, and I have difficulty breathing in the house with the smoke. My mom always gets mad at that and says "You should be used to it by now, I still smoked when you were in my tummy" (like it is some kind of a game or something) Amazing I can even breathe as good as I can
My parents both smoked when I was a kid, my mom was the worst. She tried to quit so many time and then would start up again. They both finally quit together in '77 and haven't smoked since. I tried it in high school, just didn't see what everyone else saw in it. Bought a pack of unfiltered European Camels, didn't even get through them all and tossed the rest of the pack. My fingers were getting stained and stinky, just didn't like it. But then, I don't like the taste of beer either, I guess I'm just strange. Kudos to that kid, too bad there aren't more like him. -TD
Having a non smoking section in a restaraunt is like having a no peeing section in a pool.
I smoked for years and finally got caught , not by the smell but by the pack of cigs daughters found in my purse 13 years after I started. I quit once they found out.
I never smoked in my home or anyone elses, in my car or in any one elses either.
I'd like to shake that kids hand for doing what he did. I'd also like to know where this mother (???) gets her money to keep her "pet" afloat. When I see such behavior, I also like to see if the mother is wearing a wedding ring.

She pawned it to buy a pack of smokes and a fifth of gin...
Major props to that kid for looking out for the baby!
It always amazes me the TOTAL denial that lots of smokers have about it's dangers, thinking especially of the baby...
I knew a girl a while back that smoked like a chimney (her husband as well) - their first son has horrible asthma, and her second kid was a month-early 2.5 pounds with lung problems at birth due to her smoking while pregnant! She was totally convinced that her smoking had nothing to do with any of her kids problems. She was a friend of a friend, and I couldn't take listening to her whine about how tough things were for her to pay her bills when I knew she was shelling out $50 a week for cigs.
I understand smoking, my dad has smoked for over 30 years, but he has NEVER smoked a cig in my presence...ALWAYS outside and away from people because he knows it's his choice, not theirs.
Fatman you should write to your local paper about this kid. Let the rest of your comunity know that the youth of today are sill good upstanding citizens.
