I have a '96 Ranger, which the check engine light won't turn off. I took the truck to a mechanic who told me that everything checked out fine, except the truck is throwing a code. He could not figure out why the light would not go out. Help!!!
I think I would try another mechanic. If it's "throwing a code" and he doesn't know why the light won't go out, he's in the wrong business. Find out what the code is and post it here.
I have a 1998 XLT with a 3.0 V-6. The check engine light keeps going on and when I read the system the code is P1400 (Differential Press Feedback EGR Circuit Low Input) Does anyone know what this means????

Found the problem, the OBD II code was P1443, which has to do something with the purge valve? I have a Chilton manual that calls this item a CANP solenoid, Ford calls it something else. I replaced this item, It is inline with the carbon cannister on the left side of the truck, part of the vapor recovery system. I replaced this valve, and the sensor inline with it, engine light off, and passed E-check. Found the fix in one of the forums. This valve checked out electrically, but apparently the valve was stuck, this is why my mechanic could not find the problem. Thanks, you guys rock.
Prior to replacing these two items, I have replaced the EGR twice, and the DPFE once. Ford charged me less than 80 bucks for the valve and sensor which ultimately solved the problem.
I recently took my 2000 Ranger to Auto Zone in order to find out why my cel was on. The code I got was p1400 and the gentleman there told me that it could be a faulty gas cap. Is there any truth to this? Thanks for the help

Welcome to FTE!
The P1400 code has nothing to do with the gas cap or fuel system. The code is related to your EGR system. As noted above, usually the cause is a bad DPFE sensor.
