just have on question..i have a 94 ranger. i was just wondering whats the biggest size i cold get on it and what is recommended.. thanks for any suggestionss
2 or 4wd? Most 2wd will accomidate 31x10.50's well, without any rubbing. A 4x4 may be able to swing 32's (or whatever the metric equivalent is), but I'm not sure.
Mine came with 265/75R15's (equivalent to 30.5's). My truck is 4x4 and doesn't even come close to rubbing. It is the width that makes 'em scrub, and not so much the heigth. (Or so the tire man told me...)
I knew I had this somewhere... Here's my old 2000 XLT with 31's and a 3" body lift (the lift wasn't necessary, it just made the spacing between the tires and wheel wells right. The tires were put on before the lift and driven for about 5K miles with not one single rub). It's a shade dark, but you get the basic idea...
That looks nice, but I dont think mine would look as good with a lift. I think it would make the tires look small. You can go here to see some pics of my truck.
99XLT, do you still have the 265's? Maybe your entire truck sits higher than mine did, but it looks to me that if you went to the same tire size that I had, it would look just about the same. Now, if you put a 3" on it and 33's, that would probably be sweet, but you may rub a little at full lock while turning.
Yeah i still have 'em. Was the 2000 2 wheel drive? Mine is 4x4, but no off road kit or anything (not even 4x4 stickers) I have been pricing tires to replace mine. The guy (And the conversion factor on the ranger station) said that 31's are only a half inch bigger than the 265's. 33's are a little bigger than i want to go, and i dont have the extra money for the lift kit right now (College coming up) 31's will fitn w/out any mods.
BTW i found some 31/10.5/15's maxxis buckshot mudders for $90 ea.
Yeah, mine was a 2000 2wd. The 31's really dragged the little 4 banger down, especially with the 3.73 gears, but she did alright. The kid in Tampa that bought her writes me all the time with how great the truck is doing... Almost miss the poor little thing!
That's another reason i dont want to go too much bigger. The bigger the tire the more lost power. I mean i have the 4.0, but every little bit helps. And i dont do alot of serious off road, just a weekend warrior.
DngrRngr2499, if you're asking how to keep your foglights on without your headlights, or with the highbeams on, do a search for foglight wiring mod or something, there's a few threads on here about it.
well im lost about how i keep blowing fuses or blowing the high beam switch its kinda expensive to relpace those...as of right now i have them "plugged" into the right head lamp fuse...but unplugged...i only plug it in when in inspection or when i need to really use them...but ohterwise kept unplugged
Well, mydriving lights are wired from the bettery to the switch and to the lights. The way i have my headlights is a little different though. I bought a relay at avanced auto for $3. I ran a wire from the high beam wire ti the relay, then ran it to the lowbeams. Now whenever i turn on my highbeams, my low beams come on (stay on instead of going off like they are supposed to). It makes a HUGE difference at night. Alot cheaper than switching to HID or anything like that. You can run your fog lights the same way. That way you can turn on the foglights when you switch on the highbeams without putting extra draw on the circuit.
i mean that kinda makes sense, i hate to sound stupid but i dont fully see what you are saying, im a visual learner and is there anyway i can find a schematic for this type of thing anyhelp will save me big time
You know how when you have your lights on and you want them on bright you push your signal light lever forward until it clicks? Well, have you ever tried pulling it back? When you pull it back you might seem suprised at how bright it is. Its because the low beam and the high beam are both on at the same time. That is what he has rigged up. When he pushes the lever forward for high beams he re-wired it to keep the low beams on too.
